🛍️ K-pop & K-culture shoppen in Nederland? BTS: The Global Phenomenon That Redefined K-Pop

BTS: The Global Phenomenon That Redefined K-Pop

    Thuan Tran Mar 15, 2025

If you’ve heard of K-pop, you’ve undoubtedly heard of BTS. The South Korean boy group, formed by BigHit Entertainment (now HYBE), has taken the world by storm since their debut in 2013. More than just a musical act, BTS has become a cultural movement, redefining global pop music, inspiring millions, and breaking countless records along the way. But what makes BTS so special? Let’s dive into their journey, impact, and why they continue to capture the hearts of fans worldwide. The Rise of BTS BTS debuted on June 13, 2013, with the song “No More Dream.” Unlike many other K-pop groups at the time, BTS focused on storytelling that resonated deeply with youth, tackling themes of societal pressures, mental health, and self-acceptance. From their early hip-hop-inspired sound to their later exploration of pop, R&B, EDM, and even rock elements, BTS has consistently evolved their music while staying true to their message. Their breakthrough came with the The Most Beautiful Moment in Life trilogy (2015-2016), which captured the struggles and fleeting beauty of youth. However, it was their 2017 album, Love Yourself: Her, and the hit single “DNA” that propelled them to global superstardom, marking their entry into the Billboard Hot 100. Breaking Barriers in the Global Music Industry BTS didn’t just achieve international success—they redefined what it meant for an Asian act to succeed on the global stage. They were the first Korean group to perform at the American Music Awards, speak at the United Nations (advocating for self-love with their “Love Myself” campaign), and collaborate with global artists like Halsey, Coldplay, and Ed Sheeran. Their ability to connect with audiences worldwide, despite language barriers, is a testament to their authenticity, dedication, and the power of music. The BTS ARMY (their fanbase) played a huge role in their rise, using social media to push their content to new heights. BTS became the first K-pop group to top the Billboard 200, win major American music awards, and even receive a Grammy nomination. More Than Just Music Beyond music, BTS has influenced fashion, mental health awareness, and philanthropy. They’ve worked with UNICEF, donated to multiple causes, and used their platform to inspire positive change. Their individual styles and partnerships with brands like Louis Vuitton and Dior have also made them trendsetters in the fashion world. Each member—RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook—brings a unique charm and talent to the group, making BTS not just a band but a family that fans relate to on a personal level. What’s Next for BTS? While BTS is currently focusing on individual projects and fulfilling their mandatory military service, their influence remains stronger than ever. Whether through solo music releases, acting, or brand collaborations, each member continues to leave a mark in the industry. Fans eagerly await their reunion, expected around 2025. Final Thoughts BTS isn’t just a K-pop group; they are a cultural revolution. Their music, messages, and unwavering connection with fans have solidified them as one of the most influential artists of this generation. As they continue their journey, one thing is certain—BTS will always be more than just seven members. They are a symbol of dreams, perseverance, and the universal language of music. Are you an ARMY? What’s your favorite BTS moment or song? Let’s talk in the comments!

K-POP, cup-sleeve events what is mean? a letter from ours Laura

K-POP, cup-sleeve events what is mean? a letter from ours Laura

      Thuan Tran Dec 8, 2023

Stan/Fan culture in a nutshell Us, K-pop fans love celebrating the small and big achievements. That’s why when there’s a milestone or a birthday of a group/member that we love, we will be lining up outside café’s door’s, getting ready to have a fun day filled with multiple activities like; Drinking tasty drinks, ordering sweets, trading our idol’s photocards with each other and lastly enjoying our freebies that we give each other! Connecting Gathering to enjoy the event together gives us (fans) a great opportunity to connect with each other and also express our love together for the groups we love. The limited edition freebies and actual cupsleeve are one of my favourite parts because I collect them and whenever I look at them I get reminded of a precious memory of the day 😊 My involvement Since I’m a member of the K-ea team, I usually get the fun opportunity to take part/plan the promotional activities for the cupsleeve events. Since joining K-ea I have had to learn many popular dances which was always fun. Not having to do it alone was also comforting, because I’m not a great dancer. However, the TikTok’s and reels that we make always end up making me smile. My favourite part is serving the Bubble Tea after serving while dancing Hahaha K-ea Family Since almost everyone who works in K-ea is a K-pop fan, it’s usually pretty easy to know what we will be celebrating months ahead. One of my favourite cupsleeve events that we did recently was for Ateez. One of my favourite groups alongside BTS. There were so many good vibes and energy during that event.   Freebies Freebies are free (usually) fan-made merchandise and collectables that you get to keep from such an event. I especially love this because K-pop fans are so talented and put so much passion & effort in the gifts they make. It reminds me of when we held a cupsleeve event for Jungkook’s birthday and one of the co-hosts made a whole beautiful cake of him. Jimin’s cookies were delicious during his birthday cupsleeve celebration. All of these makes it so much more unique.   So..   I’m very happy to be event a small part in making someone’s day during such an event, Cupsleeve events bring us all together and let us forget about our daily boring responsibilities even for just a couple of hours 😊

''Kim Namjoon, Kim Seok-Jin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, Park Jimin, Kim Taehyung, Jeon Jungkook - BTS 💜 - 2018-10-13 BTS concert Love Yourself World Tour in Amsterdam I will never forget the day that I became an army. That memorable day where I attended that unforgettable BTS concert in Amsterdam. I was literally pulled into the world of BTS and their fandom. Annyeonghaseyo🙋🏻‍♀️My name is Lilia Thung and I am an army for 5 years now. I have a BTS IG Fanaccount called Sakura_daysxbts which I started on 13th of april 2019. On this account I post my BTS collection and I also have organized a lot of BTS giveaways. My love for South Korea started with Kdramas and Korean variety shows like Running Man. I fell deeper in love with Korea culture, food, kpop etc. when I visited Seoul in 2012. Since then I went to South Korea almost every year until 2019. My First encounter with K-EA.In 2022 on IG I started seeing posts of K-EA. A new bubbletea place that has opened in Rotterdam. I followed them immediately because of the posts of bubbletea drinks that had kpop group names. On August 20th 2022 was my first visit to K-EA. I really wanted to try the BTS drink but it wasn't available yet..so I had the Black Pink drink which is a beautiful, colorful & delicious drink. BTS eventsAlmost a year later on 16th of July 2023 I went to my first event at K-EA. It was the (belated) ARMY DAY & JK Solo debut event. I was a little bit shy so I didn't stay long. On 3th of september I went to their next event the JK bday cupsleeve event. This time I went with my friend Sara. I gave away some freebies and that were I met Marvie. She and other armys were all wondering if K-EA would also do an event for Namjoon but they said they wouldn't. So without hesitation I contact K-EA if I could help and do Namjoon bday event. My Collab with K-EA They responded to my request... And that was the start of my collaboration with K-EA. After Namjoon bday event I did another event. This time it was for Jimin birthday. I really love doing these events for fellow armys. Everyone is so nice and are really happy with the selfmade freebies that I gave away. Because of these events at K-EA I also made new friends. K-EA is really dedicated and passionate about Korea lifestyle & kpop. And also their drinks and food menu are amazing. You should definitely try their delicious Korean sandwiches. Not only do they sell drinks and food, but also kpop/ anime merchandise and since recently kpop albums. I like the vibe of K-EA where everyone feels welcome. Not only for events but its also a nice place to just hanging out, meeting friends or time to do some studying or working. Overall, I am happy that I got this opportunity to help and have this collab with K-EA for the BTS events. I am so excited for our next event. That will be TaeJin bday event on 17th of December. I hope to see you all then.

        Bubble Tea History

          Bubble Tea History

          Thuan Tran Dec 8, 2023

Bubble Tea originated in Taiwan in the early 1980's at a small tea stand. Elementary school children would look forward to buying a cup of refreshing tea after a long, hard day of work and play. Tea stands were set up in front of the schools and would compete for business with the best selling tea. One concession owner became popular with her tea when she started adding different fruit flavoring to her tea. Because of the sweet and cool taste, children loved the taste. Soon, other concessions heard about the "unique" and popular tea, so they started to add flavoring to their teas. When adding flavor, the tea and flavoring needed to be shaken well for a good all around taste. This formed bubbles in the drink, which came to be known as "Bubble Tea." In 1983 Liu Han-Chieh introduced Taiwan to tapioca pearls. The new fad was to add tapioca pearls into a favorite drink. Most of the time tapioca pearls were served in cold infused tea. After the tea and flavor were shaken well, it topped tapioca pearls that were sitting on the bottom of a clear cup. The tapioca pearls also looked like bubbles, thus also became to known as "Bubble Tea." Bubbles floated on the top your drink and bottom of your drink.
